K-pop supergroup BLACKPINK has celebrated its 10th debut anniversary, bringing Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa together in Seoul for an emotional reunion with fans and marking a decade since the four-member group began its rise from a newly launched YG Entertainment act to one of the world’s most recognizable pop groups.
BLACKPINK officially reached the milestone on August 8, 2026, exactly 10 years after debuting on August 8, 2016. The anniversary was celebrated through a special fan event, online activities and messages of gratitude to BLINK, the name of the group’s global fandom.
The anniversary carries particular significance because BLACKPINK’s career has coincided with K-pop’s dramatic expansion into the global mainstream. During those 10 years, the group has achieved international chart success, performed at major festivals and stadiums, collaborated with international stars and developed one of the largest fan communities in contemporary pop music.
BLACKPINK Reunites in Seoul
All four members reunited on August 8 for a special meet-and-greet at the National Museum of Korea in central Seoul. Only 40 fans were invited to attend, making the gathering unusually intimate for a group accustomed to performing before tens of thousands of people in stadiums. Ahead of the event, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa also appeared together in a Weverse livestream, where they reflected on reaching their 10-year milestone.
Jisoo described the anniversary as an important day for the group, while Rosé said the decade seemed to have passed extraordinarily quickly. The members celebrated with a cake carrying a “10” candle, and Rosé presented flowers to her fellow members. The gathering was also notable because it was BLACKPINK’s first appearance before fans in South Korea since the group’s Goyang concerts in July 2025.
YG Entertainment marked the anniversary by offering special digital gifts, including a BLACKPINK 10th Anniversary badge for eligible Weverse membership holders, thanking BLINKs for supporting the group throughout the decade.
From 2016 Rookies to Global Superstars
BLACKPINK debuted under YG Entertainment in 2016 with four members: Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa. Their early releases, including “Whistle” and “Boombayah,” quickly established their distinctive combination of K-pop, hip-hop, electronic music, fashion and powerful visual performances. What followed was an extraordinary international expansion. Songs including “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” “Kill This Love,” “How You Like That” and “Pink Venom” helped transform BLACKPINK into a globally recognized act rather than simply a successful Korean girl group.
The four members also became major figures individually. Jennie, Rosé, Lisa and Jisoo developed separate music, acting, fashion and business careers while continuing to participate in BLACKPINK’s group activities. BLACKPINK entered its 10th-anniversary year with considerable momentum. The group’s Deadline World Tour, which began in Goyang in July 2025, took the four members through major venues across Asia, North America and Europe before concluding in Hong Kong in January 2026. Their 2025 single “Jump” became another international hit, topping the Billboard Global 200.
Then, on February 27, 2026, BLACKPINK released the EP Deadline, its first group project since Born Pink in 2022. The comeback demonstrated that lengthy periods devoted to solo activities had not eliminated demand for the group. Deadline reportedly sold more than 1.4 million copies on its first day, setting a new first-day sales record for a K-pop girl group at the time.
Anniversary Celebration Also Draws Criticism
The anniversary was not without controversy. Some fans criticized YG Entertainment over what they considered insufficient planning for such an important milestone, particularly the extremely limited size of the Seoul meet-and-greet. The event accommodated only 40 fans despite BLACKPINK’s enormous domestic and international following. Jisoo addressed the controversy during the group’s anniversary livestream, explaining that the members had originally hoped to meet considerably more fans and suggesting there had been problems in communication surrounding the event.
The criticism reflects a wider tension surrounding BLACKPINK’s career. The group has an enormous global audience, yet releases and full-group appearances have often been separated by long gaps. Fans have repeatedly demanded more group music and activities. At the same time, that scarcity may partly explain why BLACKPINK reunions continue to attract such intense attention.
Ten Years That Helped Change K-Pop
BLACKPINK’s anniversary is ultimately about more than the longevity of four performers. When the group debuted in 2016, K-pop already had an international following. During BLACKPINK’s rise, however, Korean popular music became increasingly embedded in mainstream global entertainment. The group’s influence extended beyond music into fashion, luxury branding and global celebrity culture, while each member built a recognizable identity outside BLACKPINK.
Ten years after their debut, the challenge is therefore no longer proving whether BLACKPINK can achieve global success.
